  • The show people began settling on post-industrial land in Dalmarnock, Glasgow in the 1960s and have a community of about 700 people in the south of the area by the river. But substantial changes loom: The Commonwealth Games and the enhancement of the Clyde means most must move in the next few years.  Increased longevity allows grandparents to provide childcare and ensure the children complete their education and so fewer feel the necessity to follow their parents into the business. The recession, volatile oil prices, councils in search of revenue and more sophisticated, IT-based entertainments also threaten their business. Let’s enjoy the simple fun and games and appreciate those who bring them to us while we can.
